Premise[]
After his son is seemingly captured, Xavier gathers Jean, Storm and Scott and they head out to Scotland to rescue David only to discover the latter suffers from multiple personality disorder and is being tormented by another identity who goes by the name of "Lucas" who seems to only want to harm the X-Men. Meanwhile, flu ridden Kitty has to deal with an equally ill Kurt whose teleportation powers seem to go out of control.
Summary[]
One night in Scotland, a group of punk teenagers are attending a party with most of them welcoming a guy their age named Lucas, who wanders through and makes his way below the ruins of McFadden castle. As he descends, he comes across a grated door on the below which he opens using his telekinesis where he then lowers himself to talk to his prisoner. As he does so, he says that the situation can be over if David calls "him" and hands a phone to his prisoner who then calls Xavier, the latter then questions who it is on the phone only for David to call Xavier his father which surprises the Professor.
On the trip, Xavier tries arguing as quietly as possibly with his ex-wife about the existence of a son he never knew he had, when Jean and Scott try to get their input in on the situation, Storm suggests they check on Kitty to see how she is doing. Back at the Institute, Hank sees off the New Mutants who are seemingly already late with Amara claiming that Hank will have to write her a note as she refuses to go with wet hair with Hank asking Ray to help her out. The latter does so as he grabs the cord of the hairdryer and activates it allowing Amara to dry her hair as the two leave. As he walks upstairs, Hank switches a screen on to talk with Jean and Scott who ask if the two sick mutants are doing okay with him saying they're fine, he then goes to check up on the two and finds Kurt sleeping but Kitty awake and suggests she sleep to get better only for Kitty to mention how every time she shuts her eyes, she just dreams about being in class in her pyjamas, Hank chuckles at her statement remarking that everyone has that dream and leaves.
During the flight, Xavier finally comes clean and tells the other three about his ex-wife but only how they were briefly married yet due to Xavier's work on learning about mutants, he had to leave unaware that his relationship with Gabrielle ended with the birth of their son. Upon reaching the Haller household, Xavier immediately questions Gabrielle if she knows of any possible places David might be or any friends that he has that know where he could be but Gabrielle only tells her ex-husband that they only recently just moved in and that David barely went out. As the two argue on, she only makes herself sound worse by admitting to the group and lied to David when he was young saying that his dad abandoned the two before he was born. As Jean and Scott scope through David's room, Scott remarks that he wouldn't like if strangers went through his belongings but unbeknownst to the two of them, Lucas is outside of the house hidden from view and spying on them as he takes interest in Jean.
As Jean and Scott leave the room, the former notices a young boy in the hallway and goes to see who he is. Gabrielle then walks over and says that the boy is Ian, a kid that David found on the streets and brought home but he does not speak. Jean then wonders if a telepath can get through and follows him outside but is soon easily taken out by Lucas whose powers are far more advanced than Jean's.
Back at the Institute, Kitty discovers she ran out of tissues and goes to get more from Kurt and finds him under his bed sound asleep. As she goes to grab Kurt's tail, he sneezes once more causing them both to teleport outside and onto the steps of Bayville High where she then begs Kurt to wake up so they can leave before anyone discovers them. Kurt sneezes again as Kitty grabs onto him and both teleport onto the desk of a classroom that is in session causing Kitty to become embarrassed as she is living through the fear she had earlier. She then grabs Kurt again who teleports once more landing the two out on a street only for Kitty to be drenched by an oncoming car driving through a puddle.
As Jean wakes up in the McFadden castle ruins, she tries fighting Lucas only to be thrown back by the latter who shows his new prisoner that he is much more powerful. Lucas then notes that he can make Jean stay as long as he wants as he watches on as she continues to make futile attempts to escape. He then suggests to Jean if she wants to rescue David, she must stay at the castle. Outside the Haller's, Storm returns to Xavier, Gabrielle and Scott who have all noticed that Jean is missing and Ian is still nowhere to be found. Scott then goes to find Jean leaving his Professor, Gabrielle and Storm to find Ian. After finding Ian, the three head to the castle now knowing that's where Jean and David are. Jean soon finds David who mentions he escaped earlier by accident but knows if they both hear music then they must be close. As both continue to escape, David admits that all Lucas really wants is to confront Xavier "brain to brain" with the two being able to make it out.
Scott then questions where Jean is but Xavier assures him claiming she is close, Jean and David then run out and over to the other X-Men and Gabrielle who introduces David to his father, as the two shake hands David then morphs into the young Ian who then uses telekinesis to throw everyone but Xavier back where they all then realise that Ian is both David and a mutant. Upon entering his son's mind, Xavier assures David that he can control his powers and become the more dominant of his three personalities. As he vanquishes Ian and Lucas in telepathic bubbles, Xavier then grabs David's hand who is being consumed by one of the bubbles but upon attempting to rescue him, accidentally grabs Lucas' causing him instead to be free. Back in the real world, David then morphs into Lucas who then confesses he knew all along that Xavier was the only mutant strong enough to get rid of the other two personalities.
Back in the Institute, Hank believes that the two sick mutants have been asleep all day and must be well rested, Kurt finally teleports himself and Kitty back into the safety of his room where he then wakes up more refreshed and appears more recovered as he then claims he had the wildest dream about being seen out in his pyjamas at school only for Kitty to become enraged as she stands in front of him covered in leaves, twigs and mud only for Kurt to remain adamant that he still believes it to be a dream, a feat that causes Kitty to start hitting him with a pillow.
As Xavier watches outside, Storm walks over to him and assures him that David will come back one day only for the Professor to say that he is sad that he only just met his son and has already lost him but Storm tells him he will be there for his son just as he has been there for the X-Men.
Quote[]
- "Face it Jean, you may be stronger than your average Mutant, but you don't have enough juice to break out of the centre of a mountain"
- —-Lucas Haller to Jean
Notes[]
- The episode ends with a cliff-hanger, that which is never resolved again, that being Lucas becoming the main identity after David and Ian were accidentally cast out by Xavier
- All the New Mutants appear, but only Amara has any lines.
- Danny Rem and Ryan Griff appear in the classroom Kitty and Kurt teleport into, them being two ex-classmates of Kitty from her time at Deerfield High School
- During the party, a young Scottish goth girl resembling Risty appears, whether this is who Raven based her disguise off or was just coincidental on the animators behalf is unknown
- Charles and Gabrielle divorced before David was born. Xavier had no idea he had a son until the events of the episode
- Both Kitty and Kurt are sick with the flu which causes Kurt to teleport randomly to different places whenever he sneezes in his sleep. When Hank suggested that Kitty rests to get rid of the flu, she mentioned that she was only able to dream about finding herself back at school in her pyjamas.
- Gabrielle confessed to Xavier that she lied to David by claiming that his father abandoned them when David was born as she did not want to bring up the truth that her then husband's work was researching Mutants.
- As Ian, Lucas was still able to use his mutant ability after being confronted by Xavier and the others with Ian himself showing his own power before being casted out
- Kurt only speaks towards the end as he was asleep throughout the episode where he claims him teleporting was just a crazy dream he was having
