Meanwhile, Nightcrawler tries to revive his mother Mystique who is still trapped in stone, much to the dismay of Rogue.
Summary[]
In Yutcan Peninsula, Mexico, Apocalypse transports his team upon the top of a pyramid. As the group descends below, the structure crumbles away to reveal a more high-tech one under it. As the transportation devices open, Apocalypse emerges using his powers which activated a dome that surrounded the pyramid in order to protect it.
Meanwhile, over in Egypt, a man walks towards the Sphinx and kneels down to pray. Much to his surprise, the Sphinx moves and a flight of stairs going downwards appears, the man calls questions if it's Apocalypse only to be confronted by Gambit who says that the former is the magic word. The man screams and goes to run but is stopped by Gambit who drags him inside. In the Sphinx, John and Colossus tear through the walls in order to find answers as Gambit throws the man to Erik who orders Mastermind to use his powers to see if he had more answers than the locals. Mastermind then admit he had no other answers, Gambit walks on and talks about Apocalypse's return and reign only for Erik to remind him that nobody else would rule over Mutantkind as long as he was around.
Inside the Institute, Hank asks Xavier if he has had any luck finding Apocalypse with Cerebro only to be told that no sighting has been made but several new mutants were located. Xavier then asks Hank if he has found anything, Hank says no and says Apocalypse has an agenda after being sealed away for five-thousand years. Xavier then shows Hank a screen and mentions The Eye of Ages, as the two leave the room, Xavier admits that the team cannot do anything else. In the corridor, Xavier then asks what the students were doing due to the pressure which Hank admits that the kids were doing fine. Outside, the New Mutants play of mutant ball using their powers with Jamie using his multiplying powers, Roberto using his solar energy conversion, Ray using his electrokinesis and Amara using her powers. Away from the group, Rogue sits on the fountain as Logan walks over to check on her, he asks if she still isn't up to joining the others, Rogue shakes her head and Logan assures her that what happened to her was not her fault but Rogue remains quiet, not wanting to pry further, Logan goes to leave but Rogue asks why Xavier kept the statue of Mystique around, Logan admits that the former is gone and explains that no matter what the team did, nothing could revert Mystique back to normal, Rogue then questions what happened after that and Logan admits The Brotherhood now have the statue, she then states it is good riddance and leaves, Logan watches on looking stunned as she walks away.
Over at The Brotherhood's house, Toad messes around with the statue by dancing around with it. As he drags it closer to him with his tongue, Fred walks over and grabs Mystique stating that she would look better on the roof of the house so she could look like a gargoyle much to Toad's annoyance as he claimed he could mess around with the statue at 3:00pm, as Toad and Fred walk away, Pietro speeds over grabbing the statue and leaving the room only for Pietro to tell them to be quiet as he brings the boys over to the kitchen, Lance walks over and opens the door as the statue falls out and lands on him, Wanda walks over and tells them to get a life as Lance then shoves the statue off him and uses his powers to make the the ground tremble as Fred tells him he has no sense of humour and Toad interjects claiming that the statue owes him a tango.
In Mexico, two archaeologists walk through the jungle area and through some leaves and past branches as they discover the Tomb of Apocalypse.
Back at the Institute, Rogue stays outside as she wanders over to the gazebo but Kurt teleports in front of her upset that The Brotherhood now have their mother though Rogue remains unphased. Rogue begins walking away as Kurt teleports in front of her once more as Rogue then asks why he cares about Mystique, Kurt answers that it made him feel better and the two walk away from each other, Kurt then teleports to the Brotherhood's house.
Inside the Brotherhood's house, Fred and Toad continue dragging the statue around as they also insult her. Wanda enters the room and insists they should take Mystique to Agatha to see if she is of any help unaware that Kurt is hiding behind a chair. Despite her please, the two boys ignore her and Fred suggests they turn her into a fountain the next day to which Toad agrees to saying that both the crows and garbage men would be scared by her presence. Kurt and Toad walk away as Wanda follows, now alone, Kurt walks over to grab the statue but steps back as it glows blue as Wanda re-enters with her magic active but stops when Kurt admits that Mystique is his mother which shocks Wanda, she walks away and allows Kurt to leave with the statue.
Back in Egypt, Colossus enters the room to report but Erik, furious, demands to know where he was as Colossus admits he was looking for answers, Erik says that he wanted a report every thirty minutes which annoys Colossus, Erik then tells his lackey he is furious and mentions if he ever wants to see his family again, he should not fail again. Now angered, Colossus pins Erik against a column telling him that his actions were due to wounded pride which infuriates Erik who then uses his magnetism to push Colossus against a wall and threatens him. Hearing this, Colossus changes to his human form leaving Erik at a disadvantage, the former then grabs him and throws Erik aside in an attempt to fight him but Gambit stops him claiming that Erik is the only chance to at stopping Apocalypse, Erik arises from the floor and walks away as Gambit watches on.
At the Institute, Rogue walks through the bedroom corridors as she overhears Kurt talking. As she gently pushes the door open, Rogue discovers that Kurt is talking to Mystique and storms into the room upset that the statue was brought back though Kurt tries assuring her that she can no longer harm them but Rogue's anger gets the better of her as Kurt explains that Mystique's anger was what caused her demise and that it could destroy Rogue to which the latter claim it already had and walks away almost upset. Kurt then turns back to the statue and notices a drop of water on the floor in front of it, looking up, he discovers a tear forming from her eye and takes the statue to Xavier and Hank who then run tests but deliver news that the tear was just merely condensation which upsets Kurt who believes there is another reason for it. Upset, Kurt leaves as Jean enters claiming that Apocalypse has been found.
With that information, the X-Men take a jet and head out to Mexico for their mission. Both them and the Acolytes discover that nothing, not even the Mexican military, can penetrate through the dome. Hank takes his seat at the front claiming that Kurt is missing, Xavier tells him that he cannot locate him but they cannot wait any longer for him to appear. Scott leans forward and asks why Storm or Iceman aren't with them as Xavier says that the missions is only to get facts as he further states that they are not strong enough to fight Apocalypse as he mentions their last encounter from two weeks ago. Inside the Sphinx, Erik walks towards pieces of scrap metal and turns them into one metallic sphere as the Acolytes walk over to question, Erik then claims the fight is between the high evolutionary mutants and says only one would survive the battle before leaving the group behind.
At the pyramid, the Blackbird lands and the X-Men step out as Hank asks Jean what is happening, Jean answers that the military are leary of the X-Men being there but she does not blame them. Xavier moves over to his team and admits they do not have much time but have permission to run tests. Scott, Kitty and Logan walk over with a device and place it into the ground using the powers, Scott using his beams, Kitty phasing and Logan creating a hole with his claws. Jean and Xavier then try telepathically gaining answers but learn that they are blocked from doing so, Hank then places the final device into the group and they power up trying to extract data, the beams then retract and fire back causing each of the devices to be destroyed in the process, Hank then states they should move to their next plan.
Back at the Brotherhood's house, Wanda goes to close a window but stops as Kurt teleports onto it, still in a state of surprise, Wanda uses her magic to push him outside and tells him that he shouldn't teleport in front of people so suddenly, Kurt agrees and mentions Rogue's earlier statement that it is annoying, he then asks of a favour which Wanda asks about as Kurt asks if she can organise a meeting with Agatha, she looks down at him as her face becomes more serious and agrees.
Back at the pyramid, Hank places a pair of gloves onto Kitty's hands as he assures her that they will protect her from any unknown energy that may potentially touch her, she nods and takes a probe from Xavier who warns her not to phase entirely through the sphere, she agrees and phases the probe into the dome to extract data but it becomes too much and she is thrown back into Logan as the device begins to implode on itself as Hank grabs it and throws it in the air as it explodes. Kitty admits she is fine as Scott walks over and asks if he should try as he reaches for his visor but Xavier tells him not to as they want to avoid all form of aggression as Jean points to a metallic sphere moving through the sky towards the dome. Erik emerges in an attempt to destroy but nothing he throws at it causes a dent, Apocalypse ascends above and seemingly kills off the master of magnetism as the X-Men watch on from below.
Outside the Institute by the gazebo that Rogue was at earlier, Agatha walks over to meet Kurt who admits he was worried that she wouldn't show, he then asks if she can help and Agatha says she cannot but that someone else can, Kurt looks over and sees Rogue walking over to them, Kurt asks what she is doing there but Agatha answers stating that Rogue is there too end the torment that is eating away at her and that her powers will release Mystique from her stone imprisonment, Rogue walks over surprised by that statement but stops and refuses to do so, Kurt assures her it is the right thing to do and says that by not doing so, it will only haunt her, she then agrees but instead shoves the statue off the gazebo as Kurt watches on in horror, the statue falls and shatters as Kurt teleports below upset, above, Rogue walks away.
